Social media giant Facebook has upped its social responsibility initiative to include an “organ donor status” on the Timeline. There are more than 114,000 people in the U.S. in addition to millions more around the world that are in need of a heart, liver or kidney transplant. Unfortunately, an average of 18 people per day will die waiting for a donation.
This is not the first socially conscious policy adopted by Facebook. The social media site has also included an anti-bullying initiative and a referral system for friends expressing suicidal thoughts. On Facebook, becoming an organ donor is easy. From your Timeline click on “Life Event” and then “Health & Wellness.” Then, select the option for “Organ Donor.”
Timeline Provides Opportunities For Businesses
Facebook’s new addition emphasizes how intricate the Timeline has become and how important it is for businesses and internet marketing to use the Timeline to interact with customers. The Timeline is user-friendly and allows businesses to create a more personalized experience for their consumers.
Do you think Facebook’s “Organ Donor” policy is an effective use of social media? Will it affect the way businesses use Facebook to interact with customers in the future?
